🍂 Leaf Removal vs. Mulching: What’s Better for Your Yard?

Leaf Before and After Rmoval

The leaves are falling here in Mechanicsburg, and every year I get asked the same question: “Should I have the leaves cleaned up, or can I just mulch them into the lawn?”

The truth is, both options can work it just depends on how many leaves you’ve got and what kind of look you want for your property.

🍁 Leaf Removal

This is the "tride and true" option. We come in, collect all the leaves, haul them away, and leave your lawn and flower beds looking sharp.

When it makes sense:

  • Your property gets hammered with leaves (oak, maple, etc.)

  • You want everything gone and don't want to worry about any damage to your lawn/landscape

  • You’ve got lots of beds, sidewalks, or parking areas where leaves pile up

Why it works:
Leaves left sitting all winter trap moisture, block sunlight, and create a perfect breeding ground for mold and pests. Removal keeps your lawn healthy and your property looking cared for.

🍂 Mulching

Mulching means we mow over the leaves, chopinf them into tiny pieces, then let them break down naturally.

When it makes sense:

  • You’ve got light to moderate leaf cover

  • Your yard doesn’t have a ton of beds or walkways

Why it works:
Shredded leaves decompose and act like a natural fertilizer, adding nutrients back into the soil. The key is making sure there aren’t too many leaves, too thick, and it can smother the grass instead of helping it.

🏡 So, Which Is Better?

Here’s the short answer: if your yard is lightly covered, mulching is fine and even good for the grass. If your yard is buried in leaves and you want a neat, clean look removing the leaves is the way to go.

At D&D Lawn Co., we do both. Some properties get mulched, others need a full cleanup, and a lot of yards end up with a mix of the two. Either way, the goal is the same: keep your property healthy and looking its best all fall and winter long.
